We Do Not Just Mark It Wrong — We Fix the Reason
Most Maths mistakes are not careless — they come from a specific misconception. Here is how we diagnose the real cause and repair the underlying gap. Tap each example to see our approach.
Why it happens
The student is treating the numerator and denominator as two separate whole numbers, applying an “add across” rule that feels logical but does not respect what a fraction actually represents.
How we fix it
We slow down and make it visual first. A half and a third are pieces of different sizes — you cannot add them until the pieces match. We rewrite both over a common denominator of 6: 1/2 becomes 3/6 and 1/3 becomes 2/6. Now the pieces are the same size, so 3/6 + 2/6 = 5/6. The rule the student remembers next time is not “add across” — it is “you can only add pieces of the same size.”
